Stella was extremely happy to arrive home on Friday afternoon, stepping out of the Floo and wanting to just collapse on the bed.
It had started out on Tuesday, when she had started feeling nauseous after Flooing to school. She'd gone to Madame Pomfrey, of course, who had told her that there was a flu bug going around the school, and not to think anything of it. Stella had managed through the day, and actually felt much better by the time she went home after her evening classes. She'd thought she was over it, but Wednesday had been even worse, and though she'd managed to get through her classes, had decided to stay at school until she felt better, worried about Caleb getting sick so close to the Full.
Caleb, of course, had not been happy about this development, but eventually gave in, assured that Madame Pomfrey was taking care of her. Stella was able to get a great deal of grading done, the only good part of again feeling sick on Thursday.
This morning, though, she had felt much better, and had received permission from Madame Pomfrey that she could go home without worrying about infecting Caleb. Though she was feeling better, she was still a little run-down, and decided to take a quick catnap while she waited for Caleb to come home from the bookstore.

He'd also been worried about Stella all week. She had been so worried about getting him sick, that she refused to come home. Caleb had tried to convince her that if anything, his immunity was boosted so close to the change, but she would have none of it. She was finally going to be home and he couldn't wait to see her. He might actually sleep tonight.
Caleb Apparated to their garden, and entered the house in search of Stella. When he found her sleeping, he leaned against the doorway, just watching for a few moments. Her could see the darkened circles under her eyes and it made him frown.
He didn't want to wake her, but Caleb couldn't resist curling up with her either. He quietly toed off his shoes and walked to the opposite side of the bed. He slid onto the bed, trying not to jostle her as he molded his body to hers. When she stirred, he whispered, "Shh, it's just me love, go back to sleep."
After three days of not seeing her husband?
Not a chance in the world!
Instead, Stella turned over in his arms, immediately finding Caleb's lips and kissing him for a long moment. After all, this was the first time since their wedding that they'd spent even a night apart, and even though she had been the one insisting upon it, that didn't mean she hadn't missed him just as much as he'd missed her.
"I'm so glad you're home," she finally murmured against his mouth, kissing him briefly again before snuggling against his shoulder.
He'd been missing her terribly, and her kiss made his head spin. Knowing that she wasn't feeling well, he pushed all thoughts of sex from him mind.
Or at least attempted it.
He wrapped his arms securely around Stella, throwing his leg over hers in a familiar gesture. "I don't care if you're throwing up and covered in boils, you're going to be at home to recover. I'm pathetic and whiny when I know you won't be home and in bed before morning."
"I feel much better now," she assured him, being completely honest. She really did feel much better, she was just still a bit tired. "But you're right, love. I'd have much rather been at home, but you know I worry about you-" she picked her head up, and gently ran her fingers through his hair. "But I have to trust that when you say you won't get sick, you won't get sick. It was just me being stubborn, and I'm sorry." Stella really had been fairly miserable, even though the actual flu hadn't been too bad- it seemed to ease up in the afternoon and evenings, but be back full strength the next morning.
Sighing, he kissed her softly the nuzzled his face against her neck. "Change your shampoo?" he asked, his senses alerting him to something different in her scent. "I like it."
Realizing what he'd just said, his eyes widened. "Not that I think you smell funny! I meant funny different, not funny ha ha. Different good, mind you. Not that it was bad before!" he said quickly. "Oh bugger, you know what I mean. I'll shut up about now, I swear."
"I think it must be the illness, though. Perhaps when my magic came back it just changed me a little?"
Caleb had no idea how to explain it, the small little difference there were. He knew that with proximity, he'd become used to and would only notice if it changed again. Not knowing exactly what it was, or how to recreate it, was driving him a bit mad.
"I- I don't know, actually," Stella had to admit. "Everything went a bit wonky when I was sick- I had a really light one, but it was early." She shrugged, not knowing what else to say.
"Maybe that's it, love! You're just used to smelling me at a certain time of the month, and it's been thrown off now."
It wasn't possible. They'd talked about it, talked about waiting awhile. Stella used her charms every month and they didn't have to worry about something like that.
Caleb's stomach dropped, then fluttered.
He sat up, looking at Stella. "Love, if your magic was gone, what does that mean as far as your contraceptive charms? Would they continue working during that time, or...?"
Caleb honestly couldn't decide which answer he wanted to hear more.
He looked anxiously toward the bathroom, then back at Stella. "How much longer? Can we check yet?"
Waiting was going to kill him. The memory of their time at Delphi made him even more sure that Stella really was pregnant. He wanted to celebrate, but Caleb had enough self preservation left to not consider it an absolute certainty. If she wasn't pregnant, he knew it was going to break his heart a little. He kept telling himself that it wouldn't matter, because they could start trying anytime, and that they'd wanted to wait anyway.
But the very idea that she could be pregnant filled him with more joy than he'd ever imagined possible.
"I think my chest is going to explode," he whispered, looking again toward the bathroom.
That done, a few moments later she lifted her head, glancing at the clock.
"It said the best results were 5-10 minutes after taking it," she said. "And it's been just 5 minutes now. Can we wait another minute?" Stella asked, half-frightened at actually seeing the results and the possibility of being disappointed.
That was good.
"Of course," he answered, smiling softly at his wife, knowing he needed to remain calm until they knew for certain. And if the results were negative, he needed to be strong for Stella. He knew that no matter what they said, she would be beyond disappointed now if she wasn't pregnant.
He glanced around them then wrapped his arms around Stella's waist. Grinning, he picked her up and carried her over to the bed, laying her back before stretching out beside her.
"So, how can I distract us for five minutes?"
With that she leaned up, kissing Caleb softly at first before delving her tongue into his mouth. His kisses always made her lose track of time, after all, and that was exactly what she needed right now.
He slid a hand under her top, running it lightly across her stomach, already thinking of the time it would begin to swell.
Was there something there, already growing? A piece of both them already beginning to develop and change?
Shivering, he pulled back, looking at Stella, slightly in awe of her. "I love you," he whispered, fighting back the emotion that was threatening to spill over in his eyes.

"We'll go to St. Mungo's tomorrow, just to be sure everything is alright," she grinned. "But, I know it's right. Me feeling nauseous, smelling different-" She leaned up, kissing Caleb again for a long moment.
"I love your nose!" She giggled, aware of the absurdity of the statement, but not caring in the least
Grinning, he lifted Stella up, throwing her over his shoulder and carrying her to the bed, where he dumped her on her back. He was half way to joining her when his eyes went wide. "I didn't just squish the baby did I?" he asked, horrified.
"Love," she began, still giggling, "The baby is smaller than my fingernail right now," she held up her pinky to demonstrate. "Much smaller." Reaching up, she tugged Caleb down beside her.
"We'll talk to the healers tomorrow, and you can ask lots of questions like that." Stella knew how worried Caleb got just about her well-being- she had the feeling it was going to be doubled or tripled now that she was pregnaat.
Despite what Stella said, he still made a mental note that throwing her over his shoulder was out of the question for the next nine months.
He lay on his side next to Stella, stroking her stomach, staring at it in awe. "There's something growing in there," he said softly, a silly grin on his face. "And we made it." He looked at Stella, beaming. "I love sex."
Forget worried, Caleb was going to be in near-panic mode for the next 9 months, Stella could already tell.
She'd been ready to lean up and kiss him for the sweet things he was saying, at least until his last comment.
"When have you not loved sex?" she laughed teasingly. "Actually, I think it's because we love sex so much that we are pregnant right now!" Stella giggled again, her earlier tiredness completely gone after the exciting news.
"Hmmmm, this means I get to eat more ice cream, I think!" That idea in and of itself was reason to celebrate. "I'm sure the baby is going to crave it just as much as you do!"

"I love that idea," she said once she'd pulled back. "How about we go down there next Saturday and surprise them? Oh, but-" Stella bit her lip, thinking. She still wasn't sure if it was ok to apparate while she was pregnant, and she certainly wasn't about to take the ferry over to Calais. "Or, we can invite them up here next Saturday. Mum will know something is up, but we can cover by saying we want them to see what we've done to the house."
She grinned again, squeezing Caleb's hand that still lay over her stomach. "We're going to have a baby!" She laughed, the idea still somewhat amazing her.
Knowing that he was over-reacting, Caleb took a deep breath, nodding. "Yeah, we should invite them over. I don't want you traveling any more than you have to."
If he had his choice, she wouldn't even be flooing to school.
At her excited exclamation, Caleb laughed. "We are," he agreed, turning his hand to grasp Stella's. "You're going to be the most amazing mother," he added softly.
"And, as much as you worry about it, they won't care what you are," Stella assured him, recalling their many conversations on this very topic. "You will be their dad, and that will be enough."
What if Stella being pregnant made him act differently? What if he got too protective and something happened, what if he did something?
"Absolutely not." Stella's reply was clear, her voice unwavering as her eyes stayed locked on Caleb's. "I will not leave you here by yourself. You can lock yourself in the basement if you think you need to, but I am not leaving."
Stella sat up, leaning forward to take Caleb's hand.
"Just knowing that you're down there and can't get out is going to kill me. Please don't make me leave you-" the last pleading words were said as a whisper, Stella's eyes tearing up again at the idea.
